What an adventure so far….
Where to start?!
On Monday June 25th we headed to the airport with our bags, passports and standby tickets to Guatemala. When we checked in we were told the flight was full, hoping 3 people wouldn’t show up we went through security and waited at our gate. Luckily, we heard our names and boarded the flight to L.A. Now this is where the adventure really begins!
Once we got to L.A we had to wait til 12 am to hear whether or not we would get on our flight to Guatemala. We sat eagerly watching everyone board the plane. Unfortunately, they don’t tell you that your not getting on the flight they just close the door and you watch your plane leave without you. 🙁 We did this for 3 nights. We slept in the airport the first night. The airport is my least favorite place to sleep. The lights are on all night, people are vacuuming…. definitely not ideal. The next day my grandparents called and got us a hotel room for two night so we weren’t living in the airport for a week. The next few days were an emotional roller coaster for me. It was really hard for me to never get a flight and to just sit and wait. On thursday we found out that we were 14, 15, and 16 on the standby list; we realized that it was going to be a really long time before we were going to get a flight out so we ended up buying tickets. Due to our different departure dates we ended up getting different flights. I ended up flying to Houston, TX that night and the guys spent one more night in LA. I spent the night in Texas and then boarded my flight to Guatemala the next morning. The guys ended up flying into Mexico and spent the night and arrived in Guatemala the day after I did. shesh…. At least we are finally in Guatemala!!
